Description
Summary:The article analyzes social and political activity of nationalist organizations in the context of ethnocultural processes in Ukraine and the diaspora in the period from the mid-1980s to the early 2000s. It is the first attempt to consider the activity of the Anti-Bolshevik Bloc of Nations (ABN), the World Anti-Communist League (WACL), and the Congress of Ukrainian Nationalists (CUN), established by leaders on the basis of national liberation ideology of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists, and their important role in the development of ethnocultural, state-building and nation-forming processes. These nationalist organizations are shown to have vigorously participated in the process of state system establishment, consolidation of the national-state concept in the minds of the Ukrainian people, building political ideology and ethnocultural politics upon the national idea. They had made significant efforts to reorient the Ukrainian authorities to the national patriotic system and fight against the post-Soviet legacy. The prominent activist of the Ukrainian national liberation and global anti-Bolshevik movement Yaroslava Stetsko was involved in the formation and operation of these organizations. She held leading positions, promoted the development of nationalist ideology, defended the idea of independence, actively participated in the state, political, social, cultural, and educational life of Ukraine. Under the management of Ya. Stetsko, these organizations became less radical, but more tolerant and compromised on resolving social and political problems; aimed at protecting Ukrainian national interests. This implied preserving and developing the Ukrainian independent state through moderate parliamentarianism.
