Summary: | The knowledge of the vegetation fires statistics permits to structure the prevention and suppression service within economically viable limits. This research was developed in order to evaluate the vegetation fires statistics in the period 2007 to 2011 in the Zambézia province, Mozambique. Spatial and temporal distributions of this event were considered. The efficiency of the protection service was analyzed too. The necessary information was provided by Provincial Direction for the Coordination of Environmental Action of Zambézia. The vegetation fires were concentrating from the month of June to November. These events occurred mainly in high Zambézia in the districts of Pebane, Milange, High Molócuè and Ile; and in low Zambézia in the districts of Mopeia, Mocuba and Morrumbala. In the study period the main occurrence cause of vegetation fires was hunting, farm opening and production of vegetable coal. The protection service efficiency in Zambézia was very low.
