Abnormal placentation as a cause of preeclampsia, an approach based on immunogenetics

Pre-eclampsia is one of the most frequent complications of pregnancy. It is responsible for a significant casuistry within maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. It is associated with births before 35 weeks of gestation and its prevalence worldwide varies according to the ethnic groups...

It is responsible for a significant casuistry within maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. It is associated with births before 35 weeks of gestation and its prevalence worldwide varies according to the ethnic groups of the different populations studied. From the clinic, the maternal and placental variants are defined, the latter resulting from abnormal placentation. To explain it, we turn to immunogenetics as one of the most solid theories. A literature review about these theories was carry out, using the services of the Virtual Health Library available through the Infomed network, emphasizing the genes whose products play an active role in the abnormal implantation of the placenta, part of the pathogenesis of the disease. These genes interact each other with the environment and determine the degree of complexity of the response of the immune system in the process of placentation, a vital stage to the normal progress of pregnancy. The review allows a better understanding of preeclampsia, from an immunogenetic approach and points out the importance of heredity-family factors as a risk to work from the preconceptional stage.
http://revzoilomarinello.sld.cu/index.php/zmv/article/view/1294pregnancy complicationsplacentationgenesinmunogenétics.
