Description
Summary:After 1980’s, significant changes have occurred in the aviation industry. In 1983, International Civil Aviation Organization-ICAO pointed at the fact that the increasing air traffic rate, which was predicted as 5% per year, could not be handled by the available systems in terms of safety, capacity and efficiency and made definitions of 21st century’s communication, navigation, surveillance and air traffic management systems. CNS/ATM (also referred to as CNS/ATM) concept, just like gas turbine engines, became a revolution in the air transportation industry. Application of CNS/ATM will replace ground-based navigation systems and voice position reporting systems with satellite-based navigation systems and digital communication technologies. In this study, the necessity of CNS/ATM concept, activities regarding CNS/ATM in the world, conveniences introduced by the system and guidelines of its application will be reviewed, and then the advantages provided by its application in Turkey will be discussed after making a general assessment of air transportation in Turkey.
