This article discusses an element of continuity in the construction and operation of Mexican judicial institutions, as well as the formation of legal culture in the first half of the nineteenth century: the permanence of judicial employees in the courts making up the judicial system since the early years of Independence and to the Second Empire, and the constant but unsuccessful attempts to professionalization of the administrators of justice.
