To analyze features of the content and methods of patriotic education at the Soviet school during the chosen historical period (1960-1980). Methodology. The research process was designed to be aligned with the historical and logical way of the patriotic education system formation in the condition of nation-wide changes happening in Russia in the 1960-1980. Features of the contents and methods of patriotic education at the Soviet school were analyzed in the interrelation at this stage. Results. It is established that resonant achievements in domestic science, along with the creation of the conditions providing higher education level and education of younger generation was provided the increase of the efficiency of civil, ideological and patriotic education of studying youth in the 1960-1980. A variety of methods and forms of patriotic education, their effective application was at the bottom of a noticeable quantum leap in the development of the system of patriotic education in the Soviet school. Practical implications. Results of the research can be included in content of training programs and educational modules according to the theory and stories of pedagogics, the education theory; are used when developing modern programs of patriotic education of children and youth.
