Summary: | The first reported case of necrophilia has been identified in November 2020 in a 20-years old unmarried man working in a Forensic Morgue as an assistant. A 20 years old man was working as a helping hand of a mortuary assistant for the last 4 years.While providing the postmortem report, the same DNA profile was detected from the high vaginal swabs of five female dead bodies. However, the dead bodies were sent from different localities to the morgue from March 2019 to August 2020. The police collected samples from the suspected case for the purpose of DNA profiling from a discarded cigarette bud. Then, he was charged with rape on dead bodies and was arrested by police, and produced to court for trial under criminal procedure. The case indicates some fundamental challenges in forensic psychiatry of Bangladesh such as diagnostic challenges and legal challenges. We aimed to discuss the challenges of diagnosis and forensic psychiatry implication in the Bangladesh context for necrophilia.
