Summary:During the early years of the Rebuplic, the two quite prominent urban centers with regard to their public usage in the capital city of Ankara were Ulus and Kızılay Squares. Depending on the changes in city centers, the purposes of use, the user groups, the spatial definitions and the social meanings of these squares have also changed through time. This study aims at an assessment concerning Ulus and Kızılay Squares. The interconnected and concurrent changes of these two squares since the declaration of Republic to the present day are attempted to be put forward in four specific periods in terms of social and economic aspects.
