Summary: | Herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) and 2 (HSV-2) - is a widespread viruses that can form a lifelong infection and persistence. Genital herpes in women of childbearing age is a serious risk of vertical transmission from mother to fetus. Primary HSV infection and the first episode of genital HSV infections are particularly high risk of infection of the fetus and newborn. The infection rarely occurs in the uterus. Most often the virus is transmitted during childbirth. The greatest risk of transmission to the fetus and the newborn in the case of primary maternal infection occurred during the second half of pregnancy. The risk of transmission from mother to fetus and newborn, can be reduced or the appointment of antiviral drugs, or in specific cases, caesarean section. The purpose of this paper is to propose a possible strategy to prevent transmission of the virus from an infected mother to the fetus. |
