The Common Pochard <em>Aythya ferina</em> (Linnaeus, 1758) (Aves: Anseriformes: Anatidae) is recorded for the first time in Vedanthangal Bird Sanctuary, Tamil Nadu, India. As this species is recorded in other parts of Tamil Nadu, a brief sightings and distribution map is also specified.
