In the first part of the article I examine the meaning and function of his theistic vison of the universe in relation to the british religious and cultural context of early eightenth-century. In the second part, I study the aesthetic view of nature unfolded in <em>The Moralists</em>. Following this work, I examine the concepts of order, harmony, simplicity, chain of being, simpathy, infinity and unity; exploring the aesthetic and ethic dimension of every concept, and specifying their particular role in respect to the general map of nature drawn by the author.
