EVALUATION OF THE OPTIC DISC BY SPECTRAL-DOMAIN OPTICAL COHERENCE TOMOGRAPHY AND HEIDELBERG RETINAL TOMOGRAPHY IN DIAGNOSIS OF THE PRIMARY OPEN-ANGLE GLAUCOMA

Purpose. To study the diagnostic value for initial primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) detection of the optic nerve head (ONH) measurements by the Cirrus HD-OCT in comparison with other ONH and retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) measurements by the Cirrus HD-OCT and the HRT 3 performed earlier.Material...

A. Shpak0M. K. Sevostyanova1The S. Fyodorov Eye Microsurgery Federal State Institution, MoscowThe Medilux-TM Ltd., MoscowPurpose. To study the diagnostic value for initial primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) detection of the optic nerve head (ONH) measurements by the Cirrus HD-OCT in comparison with other ONH and retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) measurements by the Cirrus HD-OCT and the HRT 3 performed earlier.Material and methods. A new Cirrus HD-OCT software was used to measure the ONH and RNFL parameters in 60 patients (60 eyes) with initial POAG and 58 healthy controls (58 eyes), examined also using the HRT 3. Data of subjects examined earlier on the Cirrus HD-OCT and the HRT 3 were re-analyzed by the new software. The area under the ROC-curve (AUC) and sensitivities at fixed specificities 80 and 95% were used for comparison.Results. Analogous ONH measurements by the Cirrus HDOCT and the HRT 3 showed similar sensitivities and AUCs. Only the Rim area measured by the Cirrus HD-OCT demonstrated much higher sensitivities and the AUC as compared to the HRT 3. Rim area was a single ONH parameter correlated to the RNFL thickness in healthy controls.Conclusions. Rim area measurements by the Cirrus HD-OCT as compared to the HRT 3 provides for a better detection of the early POAG stage. It may be explained by the specific algorithm used by the Cirrus HD-OCT for ONH measurements. Other analogous ONH parameters measured by both instruments demonstrated a similar diagnostic performance.https://www.ophthalmosurgery.ru/jour/article/view/11: spectral-domain optical coherence tomographyheidelberg retinal tomographyinitial primary open-angle glaucomaarea under the roc-curve (auc)sensitivity
