Ranavalona III et Mohammed Ben Youssef : deux exils en effet de miroir dans l’Empire colonial français

The exiles of Ranavalona III and Mohammed V seem to respond by mirror effect. The one goes from Madagascar to the Maghreb, when the second makes a similar journey 50 years later in the opposite direction. But, if Mohammed V comes out triumphant of the exile, Ranavalona III embodies a merina monarchy crushed by the colonizer. If the use of symbolic exile at the beginning of the twentieth century the power of the colonial empire, half a century later, it represents only an anachronistic and breathless system. Mohammed V's exile is often mentioned. The one of Ranavalona III much less so, as the queen fell into oblivion after the conquest of Madagascar and the abolition of the monarchy. However, in both cases, daily life, and especially the material conditions imposed by France, are often ignored. It is these two exiles that we will follow in parallel
