Summary:Early school drop-out is a popular problem that concerned many educational administrators. Managers of schools in remote areas are very concerned about this issue and still confused in¿nding appropriate solutions for it. Early school drop-out among pupils in remote rural areas does not only result in negative effects to the personal development and future of the concerned children but also badly affect the educational cause in those rural areas. This article presents some speci¿c reasons for the problem of early school drop-out among many girl children from poor farmer and Khmer families using the results of a study conducted by Room to Read in August 2008 on the needs to have support to continue their studies of Khmer girl children aged from 8 to 15 in Tra Cu district, which is also an area populated by Khmer people of Trà Vinh province. Through this article, the author, also a researcher of this study, will consider the needs to have social work activities in schools and analyse some potential contribution of school social work and social workers in helping the schools in preventing the early drop-out among school children.
