About 258 million people needed treatment only in 2014. The transmission of schistosomiasis has been reported in 78 countries including Brazil. Classified as a neglected tropical disease (NTD) the disease is most prevalent in tropical and subtropical regions, especially among the poorest segments of the population. This study aimed to analyze epidemiological indicators in the state of Alagoas, where schistosomiasis is a major morbidities plaguing the state. Active searches were conducted in databases (DATASUS / TabWin) and monthly / annual precipitation data (SEMARH-AL). In evaluated three years, the year 2015 had a lower incidence of positive cases still represent 52.4% of total cases positive for schistosomiasis in Brazil. The regions with the highest rates of positive cases in the period are respectively Mata and Quilombo. The micro-region Mata had one of the highest rainfall rates, there may be a correlation between the high rate of positive cases with the rainfall regimes, promoting the development and dissemination of breeding of snails. The highest frequency of untreated cases occurred in the micro-region Mata and Quilombo, representing 38.2% and 30% of the total number of cases referred to chemotherapy in the state. It is estimated that 33.8% of the cases given the treatment were without access to chemotherapy. Although Alagoas have decreased the number of positive cases in the past three years, the assessed epidemiological indicators show that schistosomiasis remains a major public health problem in the state of Alagoas. http://periodicos.ifal.edu.br/diversitas_journal/article/view/468EpidemiologySchistosoma mansoniBiomphalaria |
