Summary:Using the methods of historical anthropology developed in France since the 1970s, we will examine the similarities and differences in the work that falls under this rubric, whether by historians or anthropologists. The project of historical anthropology will then be compared to the different objectives of anthropology, underlining the problems posed by the difficult reconciliation between a universalist perspective and the possible effects of the relative contingency of historical process.
