Description
Summary:This paper examines non-normative uses of Spanish in chat language. Using a corpus of real online conversations, we analyzed their linguistic features from a normative perspective and classified them into phonetic, lexical, and morphosyntactic deviations from the standard. Our results suggest that chat language is closer to spoken language than to prototypical written language. This analysis can be seen as a new contribution to the very-well-studied phenomenon of cyberlanguage.
