Description
Summary:The paper traces a profound process of educational reform and simultaneous processes of social mobilization, catalyzed by the nitrate era. It follows a group of teachers and officers -who are understood as "transitional personalities" (Lerner)- who conducted a nationalist literary work of social protest and awareness. Formed in scientific rationality and humanistic values they would be part of a "coalition of discourse" (Hajer) in denouncing the crisis of the prevailing political-economic system, and demanding a process of national self-determination through industrialization.
