Description
Summary:Textile embroidery in Cañari clothing was an important symbol in the construction and preservation of their ideology. During the pre-Columbine period this ancestral technique was more than an ornament. It constituted a transcendent cultural practice with significant artistic expression and symbolic representation rooted in the cosmovision of their people. So much so, that during the Spanish colonization period it was used as a form of rebellion against the crown which resulted in the extension of this activity during different periods and the construction of Cañari identity.
