Summary: | Even though there is no doubt that the type of professional training on offer has largely been determined by the recognition of the role of communication in companies and organizations, what is the effect on the foundations and theories of communication management ? Do professionals still feel the need to employ a conceptual and analytical approach in social and human sciences to their, inevitably restricted, practices. And even if they wished to do so, can they in fact ? Relying on two studies carried out respectively on the training programmes offered in IT sciences and communication within French higher education, and by interviewing those responsible for internal communication in large companies, this contribution considers what is at stake, the limits and future perspectives for a professionalization in search of epistemic markers.
