Summary: | Abstract: Tourism plays a very important role within society. In addition to providing development by generating jobs and income it is a potential great supporter of culture leading to increase value of cultural heritage. This article aims to evaluate Paraiba´s dwellers perception on “Porto das Barcas” (Boates Port) as heritage as well as to assess their knowledge about the history of the place. To achieve these goals, informal interviews were conducted, to better know the investigated issue and questionnaires with open and closed questions to assess the perception of dwellers, public servants and privet sector. Bibliographic research, observation, case study, quantitative and qualitative research as well as SWOT analysis were also part of the investigation.
As a result researchers concluded that local dwellers do not still perceive the importance of Porto das Barcas heritage, so a heritage education program is proposed as well as a photographic museum to favor interaction between Paraiban citizens and their port.
