Description
Summary:In Spain, studies on the livestock from a geographical point of view have traditionally been scarce and approached from a regional perspective. Several studies have been done in the last few decades in response to the growing industrialization of this sector nevertheless, the descriptive and static methods typical of possibilism have never been completely abandoned, in spite of the rich epistemological evolution that has taken place in the field of geography. This activity, whether broadly or narrowly focused, requires the use of methods and perspectives that efficiently clarify the origin, development and transformation of this sector and the profound relationships it shares with other sectors as wed as the interdependence that it creates in relation to other factors that intervene in a given space. Current socioeconomic characteristics of the livestock and the progressive globalization of its organization, functioning and difficulties make the tools and concepts of critical and quantitative-theoretical approaches the most appropriate for the analysis of these topics.
