Summary:n Brazil, social-economic circumstances reduce the opportunities for thoseintending to enter the labor market. In this context, the practice ofentrepreneurship has been frequently adopted asa career opportunity. However, the practice of entrepreneurship coexists with the bankruptcy of many small andmicro businesses, caused by the lack of motivation of entrepreneurs in the use ofmanagerial tools to professionalize their activities, as well as their low level ofeducation. The purpose of this article is to identify the rank of importance microand small entrepreneurs give to said managerial tools, particularly the BusinessPlan, for the establishment and management of their companies. It was believedthat the entrepreneur could learn the knowledge connected to managerial tools ingeneral educational institutions. The main result is that, although theentrepreneurs considered the Business Plan and the formaleducation importantfactors for the management of their companies, they neither feel stimulated todedicate time to academic education nor become skilled at managerial tools.Based on that, a question remains: in what degree are educational institutionsprepared to provide students with entrepreneurial education that will enable themto use managerial tools, such as the Business Plan, so that their companies maysurvive and reach positive results
