Description
Summary:The conditions of teaching and the requirements for its performance have changed in last years. This paper presents the voices of teachers from the paulistas municipal networks on the competence they consider necessary to teach mathematics in final years of primary education and about their working conditions. As theoretical reference used Fiorentini et al. (2002), Freitas et al. (2005), Imbernn (2006), Passos et al. (2006), Lourencetti (2006), Zagury (2006), Fiorentini (2008), Lopes (2001), among others. It is an exploratory study whose data were collected through a questionnaire, in a qualitative and quantitative approach. The results indicate adverse or insufficient conditions for the competent performance of teachers, which they like to stay in the teaching profession. Even in conditions they consider inadequate, the teachers seek various ways to continue to form, with or without the encouragement of educational systems where they work.
