Summary:The article presents the pathogenesis aspects of dysmenorrhea based on the role of prostaglandin hyperproduction in the development of the disease. The presence of severe painful cramps in dysmenorrhea resulting in a temporary decline in labour productivity contributes to not only on a significant decrease in the patients’ quality of life, but also to economic costs. In this regard, seeking a solution to the dysmenorrhea therapy problem acquires not only medical, but also social significance. The use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (nimesulide) as a pathogenetically validated therapy for dysmenorrhea proves their efficiency and is a feasible option for therapy.
