A selection of examples allow us to characterise them here. The forms of the window surrounds change over time. These surrounds may be decorated with mouldings in doucine or with chamfered edges, and the lintels can have ogee arches, curved arches or splayed depressed arches. These different forms can sometimes be dated with precision by the accompanying engraved inscriptions. Nonetheless, this dating process must be carried out with precaution. After all, certain forms can survive longer in certain regions or in the hands of the artisans responsible for them or the owner whose houses have them. Sometimes too, the window surrounds can be re-used on another dwelling.http://journals.openedition.org/insitu/3651ogee archbasket-handle archpointed archcurved archdepressed archsplayed opening
