Summary:The CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) has often been considered an ideal tool to compare the results of assessment in different countries of the Council of Europe. This article will deal with the outcomes of a European project showing that this may not be the case. The Ebafls project (Building a European Bank of Anchor Items for Foreign Language Skills) raised the following question: "Is your B1 my B1?" The answer to this question might be that cultural differences also affect the field of assessment.
