Summary: | The essay aims to grasp a current phenomenon of the reality of Praia, capital city of the Cape-Verdean archipelago. Socio-economical, political and urban changes of the context have concurred with the birth of new social actors, in particular the urban gangs called thugs, active in the low-income neighbourhoods. Nowadays, in the same districts movements of social activists are growing, being a new type of street organization. The essay presents a case study focused on the movement Korrenti di Ativiztas and, on the basis of the ethnographical data collected, it seeks to outline the peculiarity of this organization and of its actions, stressing the gender dimension embedded in the issue too.
