Ivan Oleksiiovych Svitlychnyi (1929-1992) in 1947-1952 studied at the School of Philology of Kharkiv University. In 2005, his library was donated to the Central Scientific Library by the scientists' sister, Nadiya Svitlichna. The library has 5065 volumes. The condition for the transfer of the Svitlychnyi's library to the CSL, where the famous graduate was so fond of working, was to preserve it as a memorial (that is, a complete collection). The library of I. Svitlychnyi consists mainly of publications in the theory of literature and linguistics in Ukrainian, Polish, Czech, Slovenian, Serbian, Bulgarian, French, German, English. It features pre-revolutionary Ukrainian book memorabilia, small-print editions of Kobzar and Autobiography by T. H. Shevchenko. There are also many foreign publications dedicated to classical and contemporary painting. Many editions have gift inscriptions of prominent figures of Ukrainian culture - B. Antonenko-Davydovych, I. Drach, L. Zabashta, M. Kotsiubynska, M. Lukash, Yu. Mushketyk, I. Muratov, S. Plachynda and others. In the collection foreign editions, including those published by Ukrainian diaspora forces abroad, could be found. For his activities, Ivan Svitlychnyi was arrested, sentenced to seven years of severe security camps and five years of exile. But at the exile he continued to collect the library, ordering various dictionaries, editions of Ukrainian folklore, scientific works by De Saussure, Bulakhovskyi, Zhirmunskyi, Averintsev, Chicherin, Lotman, Vernadskyi, works by Lesia Ukrainka, Bazhan, Brecht. Studying I. Svitlychnyi's personal library allows us to better understand the outlook of this extraordinary person. Currently, the collection is stored in the library premises on vul. Universytetska, 23, which I. Svitlychnyi used to visit in his student years. http://nbuv.gov.ua/j-pdf/bv_2020_3_8.pdf history of the central scientific library collection, donations and gifts, ivan svitlychnyi, nadiia svitlychna, mykhailyna kotsiubynska.
