| Summary: | This essay is focused on the story of the Eternit factory in Casale Monferrato. Eternit was estabilished in the beginning of the 20th century, becoming one of the most important local factories drawing lots of workers. Eternit produced asbestos cement, a type of material with a high heath resistance. Useful for many things but very dangerous at the same time, in fact breathing the mineral could bring respiratory deseases or in worst cases cancer that brought to death after six months. This causes a high rate of mortality not only among workers but also in the population. In the seventies the unions started the first protests which developed in the trial of the people responsible of the slaughter. |
