Summary: | The decision taken by Greece to build a wall on its eastern border was on the front pages of newspapers and hit the headlines in Internet. However, the materialization of borders by the construction of a wall is, in Greece as everywhere else, only one element of the "border apparatus" (Bigo et al., 2009). This article is the result of seven weeks of recent enquires made along the Greek-Turkish border with the aim of understanding the border dynamics in a region where, following statistics, Europe counts the highest number of illegal entries. Observations allow us to say that the wall, which has been finished in December 2012, should be considered as a part of a non-linear border apparatus, put into place by Greece and by the European Union to stop migrants outside the European fortress.
