| Summary: | This paper highlights the benefit of adding a materialist feminist perspective to the analysis of collective action frames by drawing on the study of the Egyptian radical left’s revolutionary discourse. Such an approach provides some insight into the fact that the Egyptian revolution has increased the political visibility of women, without being able to weaken the patriarchal structures. By exploring the links between the discursive strategies for representing the revolution and the dynamics of gender relations, I show that the construction of a pseudo-universal revolutionary subject, masking the plurality of categories involved in the mobilization, undermines the possibility of a struggle carried by women within the revolutionary movement rather than at its margin. |
