Summary:In the last decade, the States of Maranhão, Tocantins, Piauí and Bahia (here alluded to through the acronym Matopiba) have undergone transformations in their economies, increasing participation in national agricultural production, especially of some products such as soybeans, corn, and cotton. With vast expanses covered by Cerrado, these States make up the territory of the so-called new agricultural frontier brazilian, subject of the article, and the production of commodities have been intended primarily to international markets. In possession of this information, sought to understand the role occupied by the State, associated with the interests of big business, the geographic study clipping. Broke the hypothesis that the occupation of the new agricultural frontier has been established according to the requirements of a standard of productive specialization exporter, which reiterates the peripheral condition of the brazilian economy to the extent that deepening your dependence on exports of primary products as well as products with low technological incorporation.
