The improvement of the methodology for assessing the suitability of using sand as a raw material for various industries
Quartz sand is a multi-purpose mineral. Sand is the leading raw material in the production of building materials. The natural sands of Ukraine in terms of grain composition and content of dust and clay particles often do not meet the standards and require additional enrichment. High requirements are...

High requirements are applied to the chemical composition of the sands. The quality of the sand is regulated by the relevant regulations depending on the area of its use. Modern publications are devoted to the analysis of the mineral base of the building materials industry. It is important to develop recommendations and techniques for determining the use of sand in a particular industry. The paper analyzes the raw material base of non-metallic building materials of Zhytomyr region and industries where sand is used as raw material. Technical and qualitative indicators of the Pavolotskyi deposit of construction sand in the Popilnia district of Zhytomyr region were used to develop a methodology for evaluating the suitability of raw material. The chemical composition of the sand of the deposit is quite homogeneous in mineralogical composition light fraction is represented by quartz up to 99,7 %, and by a small amount of feldspar and chalcedony. Quartz grains, less than 0,63 mm in size, are 99 % quartz. The thin sands of this deposit are quite clean and have a homogeneous chemical composition. A system of indicators of quality of sand from the deposit was formed in comparison to the normative indicators in the form of tables. These tables are the basis for selecting the market for sands sale and technology and equipment for sand enrichment. On the basis of the analytical evaluation of the obtained tables, proposals were made for the use of sand from Povolotskyi region in the building industry, glass industry and with small enrichment processes in the production of molding products and fine ceramics. The presented method is recommended to be applied to other natural deposits.http://ten.ztu.edu.ua/article/view/206180/206475construction sandindustryquality indicatorsregulationsassessing the suitability |
