Summary:After the earthquakes stricken the province of Van,the authorities acted quicklyto provide permanent houses for the rural dwellers.Only a year after, the dwellersdelivered their new dwellings that were built by the state or the contractors.Accordingly, this study focuses upon the dwellers and their perceptions for theirnewly built environment, in the contexts of migration, livelihood, approaches forreconstruction strategies and their post-occupancyevaluations. In parallel to thequalitative research approach for the study, in total 12 interviews were conductedin the villages ofTopaktaş, Ozkaynak, Kozluca, GedelovaandYalnızağaç. Theinterviewees’ contributions to the study helped touncover the different insights ofthe reconstruction process as well as the post-earthquake socio-economicalconditions from their own perspectives and with their own words.
