Description
Summary:This paper deals with the different reactions to Lope de Vega’s Tricentenary, all coming from the Spanish conservative wing. In particular, it studies those by Felipe Lluch, in the performing arts; Joaquín de Entrambasaguas, publisher of Fénix, a journal devoted to Lope throughout the 1935 Tricentenary; the playwright Eduardo Marquina; and the Catholic intellectual journal Cruz y Raya. The analysis of these contributions seems to show that, at least up to 1935, the mainstream opinions about Lope de Vega were mostly shared by conservatives and liberals, and aimed at establishing Lope de Vega as the national and people’s playwright.
