| Summary: | This article presents an intitled document Relaçam do estado em q achei O Engenho de Sergippe, feita em julho de 625, of authorship of the jesuit André de Gouvêa. The manuscript, conserved in the Cartório jesuítico of the Torre do Tombo in Lisbon, is a picture of the situation of the Recôncavo baiano and its largest engenho, of Sergipe do Conde, after the invasion of this region for the armada of the West-Indische Compagnie and the States-General of the United Provinces in 1624, that it disorganized the local production of the sugar and allowed that many blacks abandoned the engenhos in search of freedom. |
