An exploratory research was carried out by the authors in order to know what reading means for the Librarians and how they obtained their concept of reading. Nine Librarians from Campinas-SP. were chosen as subjects for this research. It was based on a reduction and interaction focus, being the first one the most emphasized by these professionals. The authors concluded that more attention concerning this reading problem is necessary in the back ground formation of a Librarian.<p> <p>Pesquisa exploratória realizada com o objetivo de conhecer, informalmente, o que é leitura para o bibliotecário e cama ele obteve essa conceituação. A amostra constitui-se de 9 (nove) bibliotecários do município de Campinas. Com base no enfoque reducionista e interacionista, prevalece entre estes profissionais a concepção reducionista. Conclue-se que há necessidade de uma maior atenção na formação do bibliotecário, em relação ao problema detectado.
