Summary: | A lot of biology topics are complex and abstract. So, the use of models that can simplify without trivializing knowledge, are important tools for the transposition of academic knowledge in school settings. By understanding the needs of its construction and, due to the lack of a concrete model that exemplifies the protein synthesis, the objective of this work was to elaborate this referred model. For this, the active teaching method was applied as a challenge proposal: the conception of a model conducted by High School students. Once the prototype was built, this strategy was applied to biology graduates, who evaluated and made some criticisms about it. Our results show that the tactic used was effective. It was verified that the model should be reproduced and that its application facilitated learning of both high school students and undergraduates. We conclude that the availability of this model should contribute to the learning of biochemistry / molecular biology in formal education.
