S. MaksymenkoThe problem of theoretical substantiation of modern psychotherapeutic methods is stated to be one of the main ones. It is noted that the goals of psychotherapeutic interventions should reflect the orientation toward achieving certain changes. It is shown that depending on the motivation and severity of the problem, the psychotherapeutic cooperation can be reduced not only to a short-term study of a particular problem, but also to time-limited intensive psychotherapy. An example of long-term psychotherapy is classical psychoanalysis. It is noted that the borderline level of the personality organization implies problems with basic trust, autonomy and a sense of identity; such a person tends to turn only to primitive psychological defenses, abusing them. It is stated that it is necessary to diagnose the patient’s mental state. It is shown that the existential and humanistic approaches are under the extremely powerful influence of aggressive antipsychiatric ideology, that denies the need for any diagnosis and is guided by the ideas of the integrity of a personality and the impossibility of its consideration through the prism of diagnosis. It is noted that the isolation of precisely those aspects that directly or indirectly interfere with the healthy functioning of the personality are an extremely important and sometimes a vital aspect of the work of the medical psychologist, since they provide targeted psychotherapeutic assistance and help to exclude the possibility of organic disorders and mental illnesses.http://journals.uran.ua/index.php/2227-6246/article/view/156521/155932psychotherapeutic assistancediagnosticsmental illnesspersonalitypatientpsychotherapistdiagnosismedical psychologist.
