Bioactivity of the Essential Oil of the Leaves of Ageratum houstonianum Mill on Guinean Dwarf Goat's Ticks (Rhipicephalus appendiculatus) in Western Cameroon. The test of the essential oil of the leaves of Ageratum houstonianum on Rhipicephalus appendiculatus was carried out in the Laboratory of Applied and Environmental Chemistry of the University of Dschang in West Cameroon. Five doses of the essential oil (0.00; 0.016; 0.031; 0.062 and 0.125 μl/cm2) in four replicates were used. Each replicate was made up of ten ticks in the Petri dish with filter paper on the bottom and uniformly impregnated with the product. The results of this study indicate that essential oil of the leaves are toxic to R. appendiculatus ticks. The highest mortality in the control group was 10% when the lowest dose (0,016 μl/cm2) of essential oil of the leaves of A. houstonianum had exterminated the ticks after eight days of exposure. The LD50 of the essential oil of the leaves was 0.02949 μl/cm2 at the end of the second day indicating a potentially high efficiency of this product on this parasite.
