Summary: | This study aims to question the patients and physical therapists in order to identify the communication styles used by both of them, in correlation to the potential barriers. This is also a study of the impact that they have on the development of the rehabilitation. These aspects needed to be studied because the use of an unsuited communication style or a mix of verbal and nonverbal elements taken from various styles can perturb and influence the patient-therapist relationship. During research, the method of inquiry or the questionnaire was used. More precisely, the method of mixed questionnaire (with open and closed questions) was applied on a group of 10 physical therapists (8 females and 2 males), and 59 patients (27 males and 32 females), from multiple centers in the public and the private sector: GTL Medical Clinic, the Bacău County Emergency Hospital, the Eforie Nord Physical Medicine and Balneotherapy Clinical Rehabilitation Hospital. In conclusion, it can be said that the quality of the services is correlated to the style used (passive, assertive, aggressive, passive-aggressive) to communicate by the physical therapist, which influences the rhythm of identified barriers and the ability to manage them. A successful partnership that ensures a good end of the therapeutic act is based on an effective communication, which guarantees a quality collaboration, determining the patients direct involvement in their own rehabilitation. |
