The subjects of the research were four women with breast implants who had children after breast augmentation and were attended at the Human Milk Bank of Maringá University Hospital., between 2005 and 2007. Three thematic units emerged from the interviews: the breast implant and breastfeeding, confidence in the surgeon, and problems in breastfeeding. None of the participants associated the fact of possessing a breast implant with difficulties in breastfeeding and only one associated mastitis with the mastopexy carried out at the same time as the breast augmentation. All had contacted the Human Milk Bank to solve problems common to nursing mothers, with or without previous surgical interventions. It was concluded that, probably, the implantation of breast implants does not exercise negative influence on breastfeeding.http://dx.doi.org/10.5380/ce.v16i2.20429Maternal breastfeedingBreast implantsLactation
