Traducción y transmisión de un tratado cosmográfico alfonsí: la versión castellana perdida del Fi hay’at al-'alam de Ibn al-Haytam

The Spanish translation of the cosmographic treaty Fi hay’at al- 'alam de Ibn al-Haytam was commissioned by Alfonso X. Although this text has not been preserved, a later and very faithful Latin version —De configuratione mundi— is still extant. This version is the basis from which the restructuring of the work is examined here, with special attention to its cosmographical content. The treaty is contextualized within Alfonso’s oeuvre as a work of the first period, bearing a relationship to Ochava espera, the other treaty by King Alfonso on descriptive or physical astronomy. Also, from the perspective of material philology, and with the data provided by its textual transmission, we refute the unfounded assumption that Alfonso’s Spanish translation of the work by Ibn al-Haytam once was part of the Libro del saber de astrología.
