Description
Summary:The implementation of equal opportunities policies in the educational system shows important shortcomings. Some theorists argue that these problems cannot be addressed from liberal feminism. Some alternatives have been put forward in the field of Sociology of Education. This article expounds some of the central points in two different kinds of critical studies. The first can be traced back to Marxist and materialist theories of reproduction. Thesecond is related to Michel Foucault’s poststructuralist thinking and Cultural Materialism. Both approaches challenge the liberal feminist assumptions that the educational system is neutral in relation to gender. But both approaches follow their own analyses when explaining gender bias, as shown in the article.
