Summary:Recently Nigeria has established itself as a major global player and continental leader. However, its internal instability, stemming from the actions of the insurgent group known as Boko Haram, infers in the (in) security of the region. Hence, the authors seek to elucidate through this article the conjuncture of the country by observing a variety of indicators and analyzing contemporary Nigerian political history. In addition, it assesses what joint actions are being taken by border States and their effects in combating extremism, as well as the opportunities for consolidation of African organizations.
