Description
Summary:Political developments in the Balkan in the late thirteenth and early fourteenth century had an impact on gradual strengthening and improvement of the position of the medieval Serbian state. The most wanted directions of spreading Serbian borders were in the south and southeast. Territorial expansion that marked the rule of Stefan Dusan has not resulted merely in enlarging of Serbian administrative apparatus and its reorganization, but also led to the new territorial organization and the conformation of the Serbian Archbishopric, which is in 1346 raised to the rank of patriarchy. For these reasons, there was a formation of the new bishoprics within the old borders of the Serbian church, but also to expansion of the jurisdiction of the Serbian patriarchy. In this paper, we are talking about the fate of Archbishopric of Serres after getting town Serres under the Serbian rule. Special attention was paid to the spiritual persons who, at that time, were on the throne of Archbishopric of Serres, as well as changes that occurred in administrative and jurisdictional system of the Archbishopric during the whole time Serbian managing of town Serres, and especially after Dusan's death in 1355.
