Summary: | The work consists in rebuilding the french Institute’s history after the sunset of the historical direction of Julien Luchaire in 1920 to 1938: year of the end of the leadership of his successor, Henri Graillot. At the beginning there is a comparison between the two directors. The second part regards the cultural activity of the Institute: the teaching of language, the library, music education and the conferences. The last part analyzes the story of the theft of a section of the Donatello Pulpit of the Crucifixion in Florence, which involved a Professor of Institute, Gustave Soulier. |
