Summary: | In these proceedings we give an overview of the methods for track and vertex reconstruction as well as particle identification performed with the ALICE experiment at the LHC. Because of very high particle multiplicities and softness of the particle momentum spectra observed in Pb–Pb collisions, the efficiency of traditional reconstruction algorithms becomes challenging. Therefore, ALICE has implemented a few ad-hoc algorithmic extensions allowing for significant improvements in the reconstruction quality. The strong and weak sides of these extensions are discussed here as well.
