Description
Summary:The relative debate on globalization or regionalization of business cycles has been intense in recent years. This discussion has largely taken place in the broader context of the economies of the globalization process. Our paper contributes to this debate by testing the impact of intra-regionalism vs. economic inter-regionalism on the correlation of business cycles, paying special attention to the Asia-Europe relationship. We observe that the effect of regionalism on the cyclical co-movement is relatively more significant. Regional economic cycles in Europe and Asia are synchronous. However, the cyclical transmission between these two regions always appears smaller.
